• To improve the literary intelligence amongst the engineering students of the college – since language is a powerful tool and is considered to be valuable at all points of a career, the literary club also seeks to refine the thinking and perspective of the candidates involved.
• To ensure that the quality of discourse and debate stays at a respectable standard - debate and deconstruction of fundamental ideas, and reinvestigation of entrenched viewpoints are given special preference.
• To provide exposure and application of literary skills – the club aims to showcase the literary caliber of the students of IET, and to train the psyche of students to stand tall in testing circumstances and meet wits with the best in the country.
Originally founded in 2014, the club houses students with a special interest in writing, debating, policy drafting, quizzing, and public speaking. Cutting across all four years and eight branches, the name “Excelsior” itself stands for “superior quality”. In the same vein, the members of the club consistently work to refine and polish their skills to live up to this title. The club is home to students having a passion for literature, debating, poetry writing, creative writing, elocution etcetera; and to showcase talent. It is largely viewed as a unique platform for all the literary enthusiasts in IET Lucknow, whether one prefers the medium to be English or Hindi. Throughout the year various events are organized by the club to create a nurturing atmosphere. Excelsior was established on the 27th of August, 2014 and since then, the club has cherished many attainments.
Excelsior, as attested by the accomplished set of alumni we have, is perhaps the most important club of IET Lucknow. Although just a literary club, its strength has always been looked up to. The students who excel here are generally the ones who take the lead in their future endeavours.
Literary skills are conversational and transactional in nature, and the work that we do here is not limited to ‘personality development’ per se. The main aim is to teach a candidate how to move towards a richer sense of thinking and to express it as well - all of that in a more nuanced, confident, and accessible manner.
The audition process is conducted every year in the following format:
Stage 1:
Professo: A short speech by the candidate and a little discussion with Excelsior mentors.
Ink Blot: A write-up on a topic of one’s own choice is to be penned down by the candidate.
Stage 2:
Personal Interview: Here the following are observed:
Excelsior takes in graphic designers too; the tasks for the same are relayed during the audition. Students having an additional interest in literature are preferred as graphic designers.
